port of antwerp

from sustainability report to international experience

The Port of Antwerp reports on its sustainability efforts spanning 10 domains in a comprehensive, substantiated sustainability report.

To breathe life into the report, the port authority called upon the sustainability expertise and creativity of the make sense team. We created a fresh animation clip (1 minute!) out of it, which we shared with the world at the occasion of a lively port event.

On 22 and 23 March 2018, the World Ports Sustainability Program was officially launched in the port of Antwerp: a global sustainability programme based on the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. With this charter, the international port industry aims to enhance its efforts on sustainability, and connect them to 5 pillars: future-proof infrastructure, climate & energy, societal integration of ports, safety & security, and governance & ethics. The Port of Antwerp wanted to utilise the event to share its sustainability report and thus promote sustainable business among its partners.

make sense handled communication, the campaign image, and the website for the international event. We invited the international port authorities, members of port organisations, CEOs, representatives and CSR managers, stakeholders, and politicians to support the programme in the magnificent setting that is the Antwerp Port House. The architectural gem by Zaha Hadid moreover served as the inspiration for the campaign image: a stylistic representation of the Port House in the colours of the 17 SDGs. Using infinity lines, we symbolised the global commitment regarding the sustainability programme. On the event website, visitors not only found practical information but also all renowned speakers and their insights. We informed and inspired the guests with a very short animation clip wherein the sustainability report of the Port of Antwerp is linked to the 17 SDGs in plain wording. The congress was formally concluded with the signing of the World Ports Sustainability Program Declaration.
