strategic advice for the meals of the future

When Compass Group Belgium decided to tie together its sustainability initiatives and draw up a sound sustainability strategy for its food service, the meal provider reached out to us. We sent our CSR consultant, Jo.

He screened the meal company on the basis of a checklist with approximately 10 sustainability themes, talked to key people and compiled all relevant information gathered from the different departments. The icing on the cake? An integrated strategy and a coherent sustainability story as a basic ingredient for tomorrow's meals.

‘Connecting people through food’. That is Compass Group Belgium’s mission. They develop food service solutions tailored to the needs and wishes of companies, schools and various care centres. In need of strategic advice about sustainability, and to share their efforts with the world, they reached out to us. Our team subjected the food provider to a comprehensive analysis and developed a clear strategy as a starting point of their socially responsible story. In doing so, we took into account what the meal provider itself had already put on the sustainable menu.

sustainable food and purchases

In order to ensure a healthy diet and minimal environmental impact, the meal producer will draw up a meal plan based on seasonal food, including a vegetarian option. The project is supported by Youmeal , smart software that visualises the health and environmental impact of meals and menus. As a result, consumers eating in one of the schools or companies served by Compass Group can make a conscious choice for a healthy meal. Thanks to the flexible meal plan, the food provider can respond to their customers’ demand in a better way – and at a lower price. The result? A closer cooperation and fewer leftovers on the plates of patients, schoolchildren and employees in Belgium.

In the purchase of ingredients, Compass Group also cares for people and the planet: the meal provider makes all food purchases with quality suppliers and aims to have more ecological and biological snacks in the Grab&Go assortment.

Jo’s sustainability report resulted in an integral sustainability strategy, giving clear direction to the meal provider. Their sustainability story is delicious and will surely inspire many clients and friendly competitors.
